Creating one accurate transcription of somebody's oral history story takes the right gear also the right amount of editorial discretion. 1 Create some outline about your oral history interview. Most transcribed interviews have at least a paragraph introduction, which gives a short synopsis of who was interviewed, why and the topics discussed.

2 Make a copy about the original recording of the interview, if possible, before attempting the transcription. Transcribing devices can be purchased with transcribing oral history interviews, but these are typically expensive and are intended a lot more for professional rather than amateur use. Place certain activities in brackets they pertain to the interview, such being "[laughs]" or "[dog barks]."
